Colt Creek was purchased from the Overstreet Family in May of 2006. This 5,067 acre park nestled within the Green Swamp Wilderness Area and named after one of the tributaries that flows through the property was opened to the public on January 20, 2007. For over 60 years this property was managed as a cattle ranch by the Overstreet family. Past activities on the land included lime rock mining, timber harvesting, citrus production and turpentining. Comprised mainly of pine flatwoods, cypress domes and open pasture land, this piece of pristine wilderness is home to many animal species including the American Bald Eagle, Shermams Fox Squirrel, gopher tortoise, white-tailed deer, wild turkey and bobcat. Visitors are invited to fish, picnic and hike or horseback riding on over 12 miles of trails and enjoy nature study at its finest. 16000 State Rd 471, Lakeland, Florida 33809 (863) 815-6761 Lake Kissimmee State Park Horseback riding. Take advantage of some of the outdoor opportunities at Lake Kissimmee by bringing the family out to spend a day exploring the park. With 13 miles of hiking and equestrian trails, a boat launch leading out to Lake Kissimmee (Florida's third largest lake), shaded picnic areas, a playground, excellent wildlife viewing, and camping; Lake Kissimmee State Park offers something for everyone. Remember to bring plenty of water, sunscreen and insect repellant with you! Lake Kissimmee State Park is located off S.R. 60, 15 miles east of Lake Wales. Lake Louisa Park Lake Louisa State Park offers 16 miles of marked trails for equestrian users. Horseback riders can access the park's trails one of two ways. Our back entrance horse trail parking lot is accessible via C.R. 561 to Lake Nellie Road. The equine lot will be on the left hand side where the paved road turns to clay. The equine parking lot has drinking water for horses, hitching posts, and a kiosk with information regarding the horse trails. Please follow payment instructions at the honor fee station at the equetrian trailhead. Horse riders can also enter the park through the main entrance off of Hwy. 27. Lake Louisa also has a primitive equestrian campground open to riders. To make arrangements to camp at our equestrian campground you can call the Ranger Station at 352-394-3969. The campground has a 4-horse paddock, water hookups, self-composting toilet, pavilion, fire ring and grill. Please be sure to have with you proof of negative coggins for your horses. Little Big Econ State Forrest name comes from combining the names of the Little Econlockhatchee River and the larger Econlockhatchee River which flow through the property. Scenic horse trails abut the forest's most notable feature which is the narrow, winding Econlockhatchee River. Little Big Econ State Forest is located in Seminole County, 3.3 miles east of the town of Oviedo on County Road 426. Lower Wekiva River Preserve State Park Horseback riding trails. Central Florida nature exists in its purest form along four miles of the Wekiva River and Blackwater Creek. For thousands of years, Native Americans valued the abundance of wildlife in this area. This system of blackwater streams and wetlands provides habitat for black bears, river otters, alligators, wood storks, and sandhill cranes. Visitors can stroll along the Sand Hill Nature Trail for a self guided tour of the native Florida plants and wildlife found at the park. Canoeists can paddle through the park on the Wekiva River. Equestrian camping is available in designated areas and can be reserved by calling Wekiwa Springs State Park. Horse stalls and corrals are available for equestrian campers. Located nine miles west of Sanford on State Road 46. 407-884-2008. Rock Springs Run State Reserve Sand pine scrub, pine flatwoods, swamps, and miles of pristine shoreline along Rock Springs Run and the Wekiva River make this reserve a refuge of natural beauty. Visitors can enjoy bicycling, hiking, or horseback riding along 17 miles of trails. Guided trail rides and horse rentals are available. The trail may be closed temporarily on days when reserve staff is conducting prescribed burns. Each fall, areas of the reserve are closed to equestrians during weekends of special hunts. Primitive campsites on Rock Springs Run and the Wekiva River are accessible by canoe only. Equestrian camping facilities are available. Campsites can be reserved by calling Wekiwa Springs State Park. Located in Sorrento off State Road 46. The reserve is open from 8:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. daily. 407-884-2008 Seminole State Forrest Is one of many public properties in the scenic Wekiva River Basin featuring horseback riding trails. The forest was purchased by the State of Florida's Conservation and Recreation Lands (CARL) program.The first entrance is located off of SR 46 approximately 14 miles west of the town of Sanford. Parking areas, entrance gates and equestrian trailheads are located at the second entrance which is located west of the Wekiva River on SR 44 in Cassia, approximately 12 miles east of the town of Eustis. Wekiwa Springs State Park Wekiwa Springs State Park comprises approximately 7,000 acres of wild scenery that offers an opportunity to see how areas of central Florida looked when the Timucuan Indians speared fish in the spring-fed creeks and stalked the uplands. Tram Bed Horse trail is approximately 8 miles long and divided into two loops. The equestrian trail is marked with horse shoe emblems on wooden posts at all crossroads. It is largely along scenic back-country roads. Near Apopka. Rock Springs Run State Reserve Sand pine scrub, pine flatwoods, swamps, and miles of pristine shoreline along Rock Springs Run and the Wekiva River make this reserve a refuge of natural beauty. Visitors can enjoy bicycling, hiking, or horseback riding along 17 miles of trails. Guided trail rides and horse rentals are available. Wekiwa Springs State Park Located at the headwaters of the Wekiva River, the beautiful vistas within this park offer a glimpse of what Central Florida looked like when Timucuan Indians fished and hunted these lands. Just one hour from most central Florida attractions, Wekiwa Springs offers visitors the opportunity to relax in a natural setting, enjoy a picnic, or take a swim in the cool spring. Canoeists and kayakers can paddle along the Wekiva River and Rock Springs Run. Thirteen miles of equestrian trails provide opportunities for hiking, bicycling, and horseback riding.
